The Right Start Inc. Announces Launch of Internet Site

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 29, 1999--The Right Start Inc. (NASDAQ:RTST) Tuesday announced that its new e-commerce site, www.rightstart.com, opened for business over the Internet.

Jerry R. Welch, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We are very excited about the potential for Rightstart.com. Our space on the Internet is wide open and our objective is to quickly establish a leadership position in the online retailing of children's products."

In March, the company announced that it was forming a separate subsidiary, Rightstart.com, to engage in electronic commerce over the Internet. As part of the formation of Rightstart.com, the company engaged Guidance Solutions of Marina del Rey, Calif., to assist it in developing and operating its Web site and to also assist in the development of its e-commerce strategy.

Welch further stated: "Our e-commerce strategy has been carefully developed and is much different from that of our competitors. We will offer free shipping and handling, free gift wrap and same-day shipping of orders. Further, unlike most traditional retailers who have launched e-commerce ventures, we intend to use our retail stores and our award-winning catalog to advertise and promote our online business aggressively.

"These physical assets give us a significant marketing advantage over purely online competitors and we will use our stores and catalog to drive traffic to Rightstart.com."

The Right Start is a leading merchant of unique, high-quality products for infants and young children up to age 4. The company was founded in 1985, and capitalizes on the increasing number of baby boomers who have become middle- to upper-income new parents. The company's products are distributed through its 43 retail stores, The Right Start catalog and its Internet site, www.rightstart.com.
