A few thoughts about MP-3 devices.
Just listened to the latest position that Cohodes put on and have a couple of comments
about what was said. As would be expected nothing good about Iomega but that aside
I must say the effort to discredit Iomega is commendable, these guys are screaming
I have only to suggest that if Iomega is so bad why so much effort?

In any case my thoughts about the reasons why what they claim isn't creditable.
The main reason given against the use of Clik! in MP-3 players was the consumption of power. They claim that the consumption will be too great for Clik! MP-3 players to become popular. This is to simple, but in response one need only look at the umpteen million other devices that consume far greater amounts of power but are wildly popular, an example, cd players such as Sony's walkman etc. So what about power?

These guys would have you believe that the kids will pay $108.00 for a 48 meg compact flash card instead of $10.00 for a 40 meg Clik! disk.
What gets interesting here is that somehow the issue of copy protection by the music companies wasn't brought up ( this is important to keep in mind ), the music companies aren't going to roll over. There is little doubt that the advent of the CD-R is responsible for more pirated music than any other copy scheme, it is my contention that the music companies have positioned the next media type to maintain their strangle hold on the industry. The downloading of music will be planted on the receiving media, CF cards, Smart Media and Mini hard drives are too expensive for archival of MP-3 music. The existing MP-3 players are designed on the idea of free loading of music, the music companies have trumped MP-3. IMO none except those with inexpensive removable media will succeed.
