[Keep an an on trial progess with MCI] Pat, I share your enthusiasm about a "major carrier" endorsing MCI..I really do. However, MCI has a small history of shall I say "more fluff than substance". The good part is Iowa companies have "skin in the game" they make money when consumers subscribe. I would not be surprised to see the technology part lag the local/ld/wireless subscription phase. MCI's name is not on the service...they traditionally partner with those with know-how and put their name on it..remember the "MCI in 1 box" program? Everyone is busy putting up "barriers to entry for competition". Think of it, if the power company, municipality and others resell "technolgy for rural america" ..whose going to compete with them? I don't believe others will spent $millions in switches trying to compete * Iowa communities get their technology for the 21st century... * The power company prepares for deregulation by teaming with telcom. * The telephone company (NWITA) get's to keep their customers...and offer value added service * MCI get good PR ..and sells "bulk minutes" on the network. * AND hopefully, customers are happy!!! So what this means is..if you want to compete in Iowa..you better be packing ADSL or better...the stakes for telcom entry have just been raised. Bob
