Stabilized Zirconia has a high oxygen ion conductivity which makes it suitable for oxygen sensors and solid oxide fuel cells. It would make sense then that oxygen molecule{O2} would be attracted to the hydrogen and carbon monoxide fuel mixture through the membrane creating electricity as it passes. The simplified result would then be H2O+CO2 vapor,or soda pop. It is the combustion of the hydrocarbons that causes the pollution.Check out www.stanfordmaterials.com for further info.
