Lucent Technologies to Support GSM in North America, Will Join GSM Alliance's Vendor Partner Program
CHICAGO, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The North American GSM Alliance LLC announced today that Lucent Technologies will participate as the sixth member of the Alliance's Vendor Partner Program.

''We're pleased to welcome Lucent as a vendor partner and look forward to the added value they will bring to the Alliance,'' said Don Warkentin, GSM Alliance Chairman and President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aerial Communications, Inc. ''This means the GSM Alliance now counts the six largest North American manufacturers of Global System for Mobile (GSM) Communications as Vendor Partners.''

The GSM Alliance Vendor Partner Program, which began in 1998, also includes Siemens, Motorola, Nortel Networks, Nokia and Ericsson. As Vendor Partners, these companies participate in numerous Alliance activities and efforts as well as having senior-level access to 17 of North America's leading Personal Communications Services (PCS) companies. Participation in North American GSM Interest technical group discussions is also an integral part of the Vendor Partner Program.

Working with its Vendor Partners and operator members, the GSM Alliance helps generate increased awareness and acceptance of GSM's superior voice clarity, unparalleled security and leading-edge wireless voice, data and fax features for customers. GSM, the world's most popular digital wireless technology, works as well around the corner as it does around the world.

''With more than 160 million customers worldwide -- 65 million added last year alone -- GSM is the world's wireless digital technology of choice,'' Warkentin said. ''Lucent's support will help us further promote the value of GSM technology to both our current and potential customers throughout North America and the world.''

Lucent Technologies, headquartered in Murray Hill, N.J., designs, builds and delivers a wide range of public and private networks, communications systems and software, data networking systems, business telephone systems and microelectronics components.
