As important as the strong Q2 earnings will be, I also expect the techs to continue guiding away from a late year Y2k slowdown. At the beginning of the year MSFT and others said that sales for the last 6 months of 1999 would be slower/unpredictable. Last quarter that story was retracted somewhat, and I expect more of the same. This will increase estimates for future quarters which is at least as important as earnings for the current Q.

I have spent years in the high tech field working with IT departments, and it is unrealistic for them to freeze purchases of computers and tech equipment for extended periods. Certainly they will limit the rollout of new apps, but if they want to compete they can't afford to stand still.
