Top Ten List for the Second Quarter

As the 2nd Q comes to a close, here's my list for the top ten events for Digital River. I'm sure we could debate the order and the wording, but did I miss any??

10. The company quietly shifts its self-description from the ESD leader to the digital download leader. Analysts begin to show signs of recognizing this shift. We see fewer comparisons to its ESD only competitor, Beyond.
9. Digital River shows clear signs of diversifying and being responsive to developing markets. They begin to sign up MP3 music distributors and build experience in the music download area.
8. The music recording industry changes direction, stops pretending that MP3 is not a threat and begins to take steps toward downloadable music. Two major labels begin digitizing their libraries.
7. Microsoft rolls out Office 2000 and Explorer 4.0, both of which are designed to facilitate and automate future download's of software upgrades. The software industry begins to see the first signs of a possible new rental based pricing strategy from MSFT.
6. DRIV, the stock, trades from a high of 50 or so down to the low 20's on consistent insider selling and a general Internet shake-out and reappraisal. It withstands a wave of knee jerk selling based on apparent loss of some Corel revenue without making new lows. We end the Q with a much improved risk:reward ratio and above key moving averages.
5. The company meets with several key analysts who emerge from the sessions upgrades to “strong buy” recommendations and aggressive target prices.
4. The company formally rolls out CommerceBridge which unifies the value added capabilities and further diversifies potential revenue streams. Hits the 5,000 clients and 10,000 software title levels.
3. Signs up Sega of America giving the company exposure in the game/interactive market. This validates CommerceBridge as a scalable platform and the outsourcing concept. As an added plus, their newest game is essentially a special purpose computer with a modem capable of supporting future upgrades.
2. Digital River quietly begins running the software download site for Dell. The Dell Model emerges as the clear winner over the Compaq model for hardware sales and begins to expand its revenue stream with other web delivered services. Michael Dell makes it crystal clear that his company will be a player in the business to business Application Service market.

1. And BGrif's number one event for the second Q: Billions upon billions are committed to investments in expanding bandwidth.

Now - wouldn't it be nice to write a similar list at the end of the third quarter. Why not?
