I don't know why you're getting hot under the collar about this. To arrive at an "undeserved crack" it seems to me that you have to overextend my elliptical comment into something bigoted. I protest. And what is the connection between a Westinghouse prize and a shuttle external tank?

<edit> Extension.
The question is - who would WANT to paint the external tank? Proven achievers? Maybe, but I suggest these are the ones who woudn't NEED this kind of attention. Their participation in the economy as sources and not just sinks is already assured. The whole point was to find a way to energize, inspire just those kids whom you've written off because they haven't done one meaningful thing. There is a certain appealing logic in restricting honors and rewards to only those who earned them. In a way this ties into the big debate at Feelies over the social value of free universal education. The opponents tended to be big believers in self-motivation. But it misses my whole point that this might be a worthy way to engage them before turning our collective backs.
Well the taggers are going to be with us whether we extend a hand to them or throw up a few extra miles of chain-link. They WILL be sinks on our economy. This might have been a way to show them a little more than they'd ordinarily get to see or even dream about.
