Raptor, I agree.

The Chinese have been very careful to avoid becoming "consumers".

i.e Rather than be the market for automobile manufacturers, they would rather be the auto builders and distributors.

Web boxes do not fit into their scheme. They want to grow a generation of techies who know how to design and build PC equipment.

They don't want web-surfers, they want web-builders.

Also, MSFT's CE interface is slow to acceptance here in the US because it sucks! It's more complicated than a VCR controller and the Chinese are slow to accept those too!

Ultimately, they are leery of being someone else's cash cow.

They want a real internet that they can manage and maintain themselves without inviting high-priced round-eyes to come and do it for them.
