Schmidt Says Novell Well-Positioned
By Tom Smith and Jeffrey Schwartz

From the article:
Schmidt said he hopes Novell's president and COO, Joe Marengi, stays
on, because Marengi is a strong operational executive and also a close
friend.

"He's a great operating guy who has refocused the company and one of
the key reasons I think I can be effective is Joe," he said.

TECH SUPPORT STAR

Novell

"There were some bugs in their software, yet they stuck with it. I called in, they didn't drop the ball; they stayed on it. They kept me informed of status and got the problem fixed. I didn't have to chase after them."

Novell's Strong Will To Survive

Last year was an eventful one for Novell. Every upturn in its fortunes was met, and matched, by a subsequent and devastating downturn. In 1996, the $1.3 billion company seemed to at least stem the marketing tide that threatened to engulf it. It was the year of IntranetWare and GroupWise, two well-received products. Its recently announced small-business program got great reviews. 1996 was also the year when Windows NT took huge chunks out of Novell's NOS dominance. The fact that the question, "Can Novell survive?" is still being asked, long after many had written this company off, suggests that Novell's will to survive is still strong.
