The recovery from the depression was probably due to the end of the war, not the war itself. The end of the war produced a huge reduction in output statistics and was a 1946 recession according to the current numbers at the time. This confused the government policymakers and caused them to lose control of the economy, allowing it to re-assemble itself without the normal amount of government intervention.
