ML said NSM selling Cyrix to VIA will compete against AMD National Semiconductor (NSM: news, msgs) signed a letter of intent with VIA technologies to sell its Cyrix PC processor business for an undisclosed amount to the chipset supplier. See press release. National Semi shares gained 1/4 to 25 1/4. In a research note, Merrill Lynch analyst Joe Osha said he estimates the deal is worth between $150 million to $175 million. Osha also said the agreement doesn't have any direct effect on Intel (INTC: news, msgs), but does create a new competitor for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD: news, msgs). cbs.marketwatch.com
