Latin America Cellular/PCS Shipments for 1Q99 Show Significant TechnologyShift
WASHINGTON, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellular/PCS handset shipments in Latin America showed a significant technology shift from analog AMPS to digital TDMA over the first three months of 1999, according to quarterly results from Strategis dataBank(TM): World Cellular/PCS Handset Shipments. Latin America's TDMA handset shipments accounted for 63% of Latin America's total shipments for the quarter, while analog accounted for 26%. By contrast, North America is still dominated by analog technology, which represented 53% of total first quarter shipments for the region.
