I would also think it unlikely that America will become officially "atheist", though I think it as unlikely that America will officially embrace any specific religion. We are moving, I hope, to a point where faith or lack thereof becomes entirely irrelevant in public life; when the nature of a person's faith is of no more import than the color of that person's eyes. At that point we can say we are making progress.
