Richard - Re: You can buy the world's fastest x86 processors July 16.

Actually, the interesting thing about the supplier you allude to (CCS Inc.) is the pricing:

PIII - 500: $478.00
Athlon-500: $505.00

PIII - 550: $727.00
Athlon-550: $725.00

Athlon-600: $959.00 (ouch)

This pricing fits very well with the only other supplier that currently lists Athlons. The PIII prices are also fairly reasonable. All in all, it looks like the street price of an Athlon is pretty much the same as that of an equally clocked PIII. With AMD's announced pricing, who's reaping the enormous profit here? And what do those PIIIs actually sell for in quantity?

Of course, no one seems to list a motherboard for the Athlon, so a complete comparison is difficult.
