'nother ballbustin release!!!3Com Names Alan Kessler President of Its Palm Computing Unit
Santa Clara, California, June 30 (Bloomberg) -- 3Com Corp., the No. 2 maker of networking equipment, named Alan Kessler president of its Palm Computing unit, giving the 13-year 3Com veteran the reins of the company's fastest-growing product line.
Kessler, 41, was formerly senior vice president of 3Com's worldwide customer service organization. He replaces Robin Abrams, who was 47 when she was named to the post in February, effective immediately. 3Com tapped Kessler after Abrams decided to leave the company, Kessler said.
''It was a personal decision on Robin's part,'' Kessler said.
Palm Computing makes the market-leading PalmPilot hand-held computer, which lets users store information like names, addresses and calendar items electronically. The device accounts for more than 70 percent of U.S. sales of hand-held computers and contributes just over 10 percent of 3Com's revenue.
Kessler will report to 3Com Chief Operating Officer Bruce Claflin.
Santa Clara, California-based 3Com's shares fell 7/16 to 26 11/16.
