Cheers Everyone!
Still long on Nextel, but very involved in some other areas which have caught my interest: IP Telecom - I-Link (ILNK) which is about to open up to the power of Internet.
Nice to see Nextel getting the recognition it deserves. Sorry Gates had to crash this party.
Here's a piece I shared with an e-zine regarding a concept which more people should take time to try out on their own.

Welcome LearningFOUNT-neer:
My apologies to Terri Robinson and to YOU. I listed her post but did not present it. It appears in today's issue. The Inspirational quote today makes me feel better about my mistake.
Fred Smart has a post below, which does not appear to have anything to do with business strategy. But it definitely is about community building. Think about it. Can this idea help you in your business?
In the United States we are celebrating Independence Day over this long weekend. LearningFOUNT will not be published Friday and Monday. The next issue will be published Wednesday, July 7.

Inspirational?/Controversial? Quote:

From: Terri <queen3@home.com> Subject: Re: How to Publicize
here is another "theme" suggestion for your press release: Internet "idea incubator", LearningFOUNT, hatches virtual bookstore!
Also, I enjoyed this from Roger:
>" ..... if you centre on the wrong one, you could miss some real gold mines. I go in like a child in a toyshop"<
This is so true! We sometimes get our minds set on "getting" a certain thing from a seminar or presentation of some kind,
only to find that it didn't happen for us. Not saying that the information we got was bad - but that our minds were constantly "picking through" the information looking for what we were expecting to hear and we missed the "gems" as Roger mentioned.
One of the things that I learned over the last few years was not to anticipate. Plan, yes. Organize, yes. But don't "anticipate the outcome" of anything - leap into it with a passion.. live every minute of it to the fullest.. get every morsel of enjoyment out of it. If it doesn't work out, you can dust yourself off and savor the lessons you learned from it.
Just my $.02 on the "controversial" quote of Roger's *grin*
Best regards, Terri Robinson

From: FKSmart@aol.com Subject: Idea.....
Paul:
I'd like to propose a very simple idea about how LearningFOUNT readers/members can use communication technologies to build community and share energy and ideas in their local and regional markets.
The unintended consequence of this idea is that it can also do a world of good.
Forgive me for the lengthy overview, but I need to set the stage with some philosophy.
Overview:
Thanks to the Internet and open communication platforms, the entire world is being unbundled right under our noses into the hands, arms and laps of individuals.
INDIVIDUALS - not companies or governments - will hold the keys to power and control in the next millennium.
I think we all agree with the fundamental principal that the problems of the world relate to actions of individuals. If individuals exercise their freedom to take from others, etc., ...we need rules and laws to enforce order. We have formed local and national governments to enforce those rules and laws. The selfish negative - "taking energy" - actions of one person or a small group of individuals can effect us all. Just look at Littleton, etc.
More government. More money. More control. More offsetting power either in the hands of companies, police or government is not the ultimate solution.
We need more love, more care, more selfless compassion in the world These are universal truths.
But lets move to the bigger picture. How can I - "we" - make a difference?
I happen to think that the single step of one individual can make a massive difference as long as he/she sets in motion a selfless, none quid pro quo, energy of love into the world. The radiating power of love unmasks all defenses, pierces and sees through all limitations, restrictions of power, control, anger, might, etc.
But for me to give in this spirit I have to rise above the one-to-one conditional dimension where I expect the receiver of my gifts to return something in kind.
Most of what we see in the world of human relations and business is a product of the conditional expectations we carry throughout our walk through life. If people we give to don't return things we expect, we feel hurt, betrayed, etc. Too often we retreat into our protective shells out of fear, cynicism and dismay. Sadly, we begin to lose hope. Doors close, Our world get smaller. We retreat from reaching out for we don't believe we can make a difference. Cynicism breeds and we develop a tough skin just to survive. The child in us gets lost.
Proposal
1) Buy a used Nextel phone for $50 and order "radio dispatch" service. Nextel's radio dispatch allows - at the press of one button - you to talk to another person instantaneously.
2) This ONE phone can start an entire network. "What?", you ask..... Bear with me.
3) I, or someone you know, buys a second cheap used $50 Nextel phone and do the same. You, or someone you know can press ONE button and talk.
Note: Nextel's regional Midwest footprint extends from southwest Michigan to south of Indianapolis all the way to Springfield, throughout the state of Illinois through Rockford on up to north of Madison, WI and well north of Milwaukee.
4) I, or someone you know, finds ONE individual in need of assistance, mentoring, guidance, help - whether he/she lives in the heart of the ghetto or in Lake Forest.
5) The power of ONE is now locked into the formation of a positive energy-giving THREE: 1) a facilitator (me) or seeker of those in need; 2) a willing individual to spend some selfless time and energy to help a person(s) in need; and 3) the individual who needs help.
This KISS model has powerful implications for good which can massively spread throughout the world. The spirit of Jane Adams can be massively leveraged. And all it takes is this one simple step.
Just to let you know, I practice what I preach. This model was not easy to "see." I had my own Nextel network last year which helped put into motion some powerful good energy which is helping those in need. Here are 2 of my projects:
1 - A battered woman's shelter in the heart of the West side of Chicago - Mother To Mother - which, thanks to these technologies and ideas - has now rapidly expanded to Minneapolis and Bloomington, IL. They have 25 Nextel phones which link their administrators, volunteers and those in need.
2 - A south side Catholic Community center - The San Miguel Center - which now has a network of some 35-40 Nextel phones - the original 25 of which I paid for and helped fund before being paid back - which have been financed through a State of Illinois grant for a community action policing project which we helped share some ideas toward last fall.
Three Nextel phones. That's all it takes. You can take a simple first step. Try out this model. Share it with others.
Anyone can set this up, but its more powerful if you share the idea with others. Then have someone write about it. I don't need the publicity. I'd rather let this thing run on its own.
Thanks for reading this.
And I look forward to hearing from you.

From: "Phil Sheldon" <fun4phil@concentric.net> Subject: Re: "..PC, less than 50% penetration..."
Email will be as universal a form of communication as the telephone. Many people who use VCRs gave up on the clocks long ago. Something like a PC will be in far more than 50% of the homes. It will have a higher penetration than fax in business.

On the issue of employee burnout, I published an article entitled, "Time Management Horse Sense" that offers five suggestions to maintain better control of our day and thereby reduce burnout and turnover. It covers the need to effectively plan our days so that we can accomplish the most important items.
It may be useful to many members of the List and I would be pleased to share it. To get yours, email your request for "horse" to: ctsem@msn.com
