Here's a site that has some useful research on the high-speed access market in the U.S. and abroad. The primary focus is cable access, although there are some figures for xDSL, too. I figures taken from Pioneer Consulting are especially interesting; among other things, they show that the European market for cable modems is expected to grow significantly faster than the U.S. market. By 2007, the cable modem markets in Europe and Asia are projected to be larger than the North American market.

I don't know how current this research is, but it still makes for fun reading.
