[TeleChoice and the power of words:]

Bob --

I need your help. I've take a few key comments and compared my notes to the TeleChoice report. I was typing as I listened and know I couldn't get every word correct, but I do believe TeleChoice has misquoted in places and in other places left the reader misinformed simply by juxtaposition or by omission. Do you still have your notes and if so, could you add anything of substance?

I know these are small details, but I think it makes all of us more careful when we realize how easily news can be manipulated. Heck, I wouldn't even trust me.

Thanks!

Pat

TeleChoice:
<<<<MCI continues to sing the praises of DSL. In a conference call to reporters outlining new plans for its rural America broadband networks, Gerdelman says DSL is a 'marvelous technology once you get access to the unbundled loops.' >>>>

Me:
Marvelous technology once we get to unbundled loops. Our marketing capabilities will allow this to happen . . . to be fully deployed. That is what these trials are about

TeleChoice:
<<<Gerdelman is hoping for access in the 3rd quarter, 1997, but realistically expects it to be 1998/1999 before major DSL deployment begins. "This is partly driven by the FCC and partly driven by the regional telephone companies. And to fully compete in the local loop with unbundled copper, there needs to be more technology in place." >>>

Me:
Unbundled loops -- How far away before MCI will have access to unbundled loop? - 3Q '97. Have to wait on FCC. Much tech needs to be put in place. True full competition is '98 and '99.

TeleChoice:
<<< "It's in the $1000 range now, and we'd like to see it in the hundress of dollars.">>>

Me:
We like DSL because of copper plant. Takes investment at both ends. We're hoping price gets down to $300.

Ah, the power of words.

Cheers!

Pat
