Vatican (near Rome, Italy) Observatory School Hears LOCH Physicist Discuss Elf Landmine System!!!
AUSTIN, Texas, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Noted physicist Dr. Henry Blair returned to his Tucson, Ariz. laboratory today after giving a presentation on the ELF landmine technology to the Vatican Observatory Summer School (V.O.S.S. 99), according to Rodney Boone, CEO of Loch Harris, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: LOCH - news).
The V.O.S.S. sessions, held biennially at the papal summer palace at Castel Gandolfo, near Rome, Italy, bring together an elite group of 25 promising young scientists from developing countries to study under leading astronomers.
Boone, who is also CEO of Chemical Detection Systems (ChemTech), the Loch Harris subsidiary that owns the ELF landmine detection system, and Loch's CFO Mark Baker, had just completed a similar presentation at the 6th International Conference on Applications of Nuclear Techniques on the Greek Island of Crete. After Blair's presentation there, Dr. Christopher Corbally, S.J., academic dean of the Vatican Observatory Summer School, issued a special invitation for him to appear at Vatican school. The Loch team immediately adjusted their itinerary.
Drs. Corbally and Blair had known one another since Blair was project manager and consultant on the construction of the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope (VATT) on Mount Graham in southeastern Arizona, a collaboration with the University of Arizona's Steward Observatory in Tucson.
Dr. Corbally said, ''We are honored to have Dr. Blair address our school to explain how his work in astrophysics led him to the discovery of the landmine detection system. We will follow with great interest the progress of the ELF in its quest to locate landmines.''
Immediately following the presentation, the United States Ambassador to the Vatican, Mrs. Corrinne C. Boggs, and Dr. George V. Coyne, S.J., director of the Vatican Observatory met the team. After lunch, they were guests on a private tour of the papal gardens.
