2-4 years is way too late, Wit will be too big a player by then. Merrill has a huge army of brokers to protect, they will never abandon them for the internet until it is too late. It is not a question of Merrill being stupid, they are boxed in by their existing high cost infrastructure and brokers, and change will come too slowly.

Look at Amazon.com versus Barnes and Noble, Dell versus Compaq, etc. The firms which "get" the internet first have ended up with the dominant market share. Wit is FIRST, and if they execute correctly will be the dominant internet-based investment banking firm for years to come.
