I know what you mean FWIW .. I did a
'study' a couple of months ago on these
"post ipo to end of quiet period plays" and
came to the following conclusions ..

Look at day 3 and day 6 post ipo to
establish a long position as these 2 days
often are the post ipo swing low especially
if the low holds above the initial offering
price .. use the day 3 entry for deals that
sell off from the opening day .. use the day 6
entry for the 'hot' deals

Hold positions into the initial coverage period
ie 20-25 trading days post ipo especially if the
market is in rally mode ..

Stick with the 'major' underwriters
