I think Clapton's best riffs were on the Cream records. It seems recently he's tried to play fast in many of his solos. His slowhand moniker worked better for him. Yeah, outside of Cream Clapton doesn't do much for me. In rock I like guys like Michael Schenker, Uli Roth, Akira Takasaki, Yngwie (Akira hates Yngwie by the way). I think Michael Schenker is the king of rock guitar. Check out "Strangers in the Night," a live UFO recording from the '70s. Uli played for the Scorpions in the '70s. After he left he started a solo project, "Electric Sun." Check out some of the phrasing on the "Firewind" album. FWIW Andy
