I always dislike the term "cover" when discussing a simple short position. Too many people like to interpret it as "run for cover", when in fact it often just means "take some profits."

I like to be clear. You open a position. You close it out. Or partially close it. I use terms like "cover" for more complex hedging or boxing trades.
