Bluefly to Add New Departments, Speed to Web Site, CEO Says
New York, July 1 (Bloomberg) -- Bluefly Inc., an Internet retailer of clothing and home accessories at discount prices, will introduce two new online departments and a faster version of its Web site this month, its chief executive said. Bluefly is spending about $1 million on its site to make buying designer clothes and household accessories faster and easier for its customers, said Kenneth Seiff, president and chief executive. The New York-based retailer plans to add information on brands, enlarged pictures of sale items, a new teen department and a gift department. The company has made minor improvements to its existing site since it was introduced in September, Seiff said. ''Our existing site is not as flexible,'' Seiff said. ''This one should provide a foundation for significant changes and upgrades in the future.'' Seiff said Bluefly attracts online shoppers through advertising, word of mouth and marketing agreements with Internet companies such as Yahoo! Inc. and Lycos Inc. He said the company gets about half of its business from these links. Shares of Bluefly fell 1/16 to 8 1/4 in midmorning trading.
