James, "Maybe I don't quite understand some of the fundamental issues here, but if that is the case, I am not sure what Via sees in this purchase, and why some people see this as being so important to the discussion of RMBS.... Buying a clunker and tarting it up is still cheaper than trying to re-invent the automobile. I personally doubt if National's licence from Intel was the carrot. Via has had state of the art chip sets or some time, so it is only natural that they want to get to the "heart" of the matter. Only with the complete set of toys can they hope to gain independence from INTC: No way can I beleive that intc is peeing their pants because of Via so early in the game. Tell me would you buy a Cyrix/NSM/Via MPU today? It will only find slots in the lowest of the low speced computers for the foreseeable future, an area where RMBS is not currently focusing on Alan
