The highest P/E prior to today's (what, around 34, 35?) was 26.51 in 1992, going back to 1950 anyway. That doesn't take into account the much higher percentage of a company's earnings being siphoned into the executives and even employees now that doesn't show up. What's that, 5%, 10% of earnings? Maybe more? That would put the effective P/E up to 38-42... Good thing interest rates are rising to support the market <g>
