one night at least at the volcano house on the Big Island up near the active volcano...I forget its name ...it is I think Kiluaa...from there it is a short hike down into the crater of this pretty much dead but not completely dead crater and all the way across passing steam vent after steam vent and up the other side to "Devastation Trail"...here once was a forest but now just dead limbs of trees sticking up through the lava...really eire and then gradually out into a lush rain forest and a short hike up to Thurston Lava Tube where for about 1000 feet or so you walk under ground in this tunnel which was carved out by an ancient flow......once of the coolest hikes I have ever taken...hotels on Maui my favorite is the Wailea Grande....has the coolest pool I have ever seen.....looks like a natural Hawaii mountain pond with runnig streams into it...has giant slides.... a volcano elevator thing which fills with water instead of lava....cave bar...lazy river....ropes to jump off... real beach in pool... *
