Dynegy Begins Construction on Rockingham Power Plant; Commercial Operations Will Begin During Second Quarter of 2000
HOUSTON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynegy Inc. (NYSE: DYN - news) today announced that it has received all necessary regulatory permits and has commenced construction on the Rockingham Power Plant, an 800-megawatt (MW), simple-cycle generating facility in Rockingham County, N.C. Commercial operations will begin in June 2000.

The Rockingham Power Plant will be located on a 69-acre site off Highway 65 near Bethany, N.C. The power plant will include five dual fuel-fired combustion turbines. Dynegy has signed a long-term natural gas interconnection agreement with Williams to provide capacity for up to 222 million cubic feet of natural gas per day to fuel the facility. A 230-kilovolt Duke Energy transmission line will provide access for power delivery.
