A Greater Oddity
(or... "'Tis a puzzlement." - as spoken by Yul Brynner as the king of Siam in The King and I.

My first car was a convertible, silver 1961 Corvette. It had a 4-on-the-floor as they used to call it and red leather bucket seats. I had many great times in that 'Vette, including many hours spent in drive-in theaters with various girls who were my amore of the moment. Often there was more action in my car than on the screen, especially during the Fall months when the top was up. Because the car had bucket seats, the more limber girls would turn and straddle the center console as we kissed. This would put them in proximity to the silver stickshift which sported a celluloid ball on the top, much like a cue ball used in the game of billiards.

Often, during amorous moments, there would be a great deal of activity in the little sports car. I noted that the car would tend to rock rhythmically and afterwards the stick shift would have mysteriously moved from first gear (where I usually put it when parked) into second. Sometimes on the drive home I would note the ball of the shift would feel wet or sticky. I presume it was from the popcorn as they always did tend to spray too much butter and oil on it.
