OK, I just wanted to be sure that you were paid IR. As for "B&M", I have vast experience with R&D in a related field and I have collaborated with both University groups and with Government Labs. In my experience, the value of the collaboration is a strong function of the individuals involved. Most often, they are a waste of money. Sometimes, things click and significant work does get done. When I say B&M, what I mean is setting up a dedicated private lab to work exclusively on the problem. There are a number of funding sources (such as SBIR) that such a group could apply for. If they get a grant, it gives them more legitimacy.
