July 1, 1999 02:06 PM
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1999--

Diamond Stealth III S500 Series of Graphics Accelerators Featured in Micron's Client Pro CS Desktop Computers

Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. DIMD , a leader in PC multimedia and Internet connectivity, today announced Micron Electronics MUEI has selected Diamond's Stealth III graphics accelerators for their Client Pro CS computer line. Diamond's Stealth III S500 series, featuring S3 Incorporated's SIII Savage4 line of graphics controllers, provides a high-quality solution delivering AGP 2X support and S3 texture compression (S3TC(TM)) at a compelling price for today's PC consumers.

"Diamond Multimedia has been recognized for consistently providing leading edge technology to PC manufacturers worldwide," said Scott Vouri, vice president and general manager of the Multimedia Division at Diamond. "Micron's decision to add another Diamond graphics accelerator to their line of desktop computers confirms their dedication to bring quality solutions that represent technology's cutting edge in graphics to their customers."

Stealth III Graphics Solutions

Micron is currently shipping the Client Pro CS System with the Diamond Stealth III S520 graphics accelerator, an 8MB OEM version of Diamond's Stealth III S540. Powered by S3's super-pipelined 128-bit Savage4 LT(TM) processor, Diamond's Stealth III S520 delivers single-pass multi-texturing, 32-bit rendering, resolutions of up to 1920 x 1200, complete AGP 2X technology and full support for Intel Pentium III(R) controllers. Diamond's Stealth III line of graphics accelerators are also designed to enhance applications developed using the DirectX 6.1 and OpenGL(R) APIs. For higher performance, a 16MB Stealth III S540 powered by S3's Savage4 Pro + is available to Micron customers as an upgrade.

The Stealth III S500 series features S3's unique S3TC hardware texture compression, an industry-standard feature included in DirectX 6.1 that is capable of storing 240MB of texture in 64MB of system memory. With support for textures up to 2048 x 2048, the Stealth III S500 series also delivers the necessary power for processing high-quality resolutions and photo-realistic images when using today's complex 3D applications.

"The Stealth III S500 series, featuring S3's Savage4 architecture, offers Micron's customers an optimal graphics solution for everything from every-day business applications up to graphics intensive computer games," said Dan Karr, vice president of Worldwide Sales for S3 Incorporated. "Given S3's recent announcement that it will acquire Diamond Multimedia, top tier PC manufacturers such as Micron Electronics can continue to expect graphics solutions from S3/Diamond that offer a 'no-compromise' approach to performance, quality, affordability and support."
