Howdy Blue, so you say US West is taking its time fixing your puter phone, huh. Sorry to hear that, that's a drag especially at Rally Time. Seems to be Always Something. So now two of my stocks suck...this one and maybe my Pfizer as Joe PM'd me some mediocre stats and Puna pointed out some of the ways of the pharmaceuticals that aren't so nice for society in large ways... these items you're giving me to think about, are being thought about, and I thank you. I've held both these stocks for years and they've done me right nice profits - no internet six-month doublers certainly but right nice nevertheless. I started out with ATT a long time ago with a windfall when I was real young... 'twas around when it broke up; then got some mutual funds and added to my stocks along the way mostly after splits with some pharmaceuticals, oil, financials and utilities too...yer classic portfolio mix that I planned for at the time to hold for a lifetime but those funds have already gone & good riddance. But now it looks like USW and UMG are in process of becoming something else, pharms have been whacked and not just by Puna, and that SBC/Ameritech merger still looks to be needing a good dose of laxative....who knows, maybe all arent't appropriate to just sit on the certificate anymore but I do hate to disrupt the core and contemplate they mightn't be so good anymore...you know what I mean.
So USW is one of my pet Baby Bells as you know; yep its going thru some complexities right now fer sure. It rejected Qwests takeover bid, wants to merge with Global Crossing and probably will. USW seems to be pushing broadband access, has its own isp, and is soon to offer set-top box specialized isp/access. Hope it's fixed by now (feeling a silly compulsion to apologize to you for the lousy service) and I wish me owning shares could help you in some way, but we know that's not possible...like, fer sure it's not like I'm any Biggie with them, far from it. Do you have a highspeed phone line for internet and/or use any of their specialized services other than a phone? Reason I ask is that ATT is my phone company and I have the stock too (not that they care if I have a complaint about the service and say I'm a shareowner, it's like uh oh here's another @$$#*!! demanding status for better service )...yeah right, like both T and USW'd be quaking in their boots if I said I'll sell my shares shiver shiver LOL. Yep, lately ATT's making an effort to get rid of plain vanilla residential customers, as I've read about and it sure does seem to be....I'm thinking of really sitting down one of these days, getting out my phone bill, and shopping around but dread doing so not wanting to go from the frying pan to the fire. I'm wondering if USW is doing the same thing, wanting to go for the more high-end or business customer buying the higher rate highspeed access, cable, the isp, etc. I wonder if, like ATT, USWest has put in all this new stuff for the newest technology but the consumer interest and machinery available to implement it properly just isn't there as of yet, so they might be trying to give it a little push maybe. Something these phone companies or isp's or really any company are stupid and shortsighted to forget is, that once a customer leaves they're most likely not ever coming back, especially if they were pushed away. Seems like one year these phone Co.'s are trying to thin out their customer base and the next year they're having long distance rate wars begging to get 'em back. Bad Business, all of 'em. But we're stuck with 'em.
Uh oh gotta go there's a beep (Smartbeep)(I don't have shares, think it's private anyway).
Yer pal,
Joan
