I disagree with the thesis of this thread. In fact, fine art has appreciated more than many stocks especially in the past 5 years. While a lot of art was over-priced in the late 70s to early 80s, art is making a comeback, especially here in Texas. If anyone is interested, I collect 19th and early 20th century Texas art which has its orgins from immigrants from England, France, Spain, Mexico and Germany. I've written and published articles in several magazines about early Texas art and the art colonies / schools in Chicago, Denver, Paris and New York. While I tend to stray from over-priced contemporary artists, the identification of the up-and-coming contemporary artists from California, New Mexico and New York is also a hobby; and I've acquired a few for grins. Unlike stock certificates, art can decorate our homes and enrich our cultural lives and provide great returns is some cases. With the advent of the internet, art, and art dealing, has crossed boundaries and allowed anyone to particiapte without leaving thier homes (computers). Thoughts anyone?
