I think X the Unknown wrote a really marvelous post some time back stating that perhaps her primary ethical engine was a fierce loyalty to and protectiveness of her family, esp. the children. I am learning that it is a primal force - different from that felt even for my bride&lifemate. I hold the Helenator to my chest and I would walk through fire for her. It's not one bit sentimental - it's kinda like breathing.

I suspect/fear I will have to work very hard to let go of my high-school-age daughter enough to allow her a dating life. (and that would be my duty - to grant her that freedom - but to appraise with a jaundiced eye the allwronghaired gangly bezitted boy-men she entertains, and SHUT UP about it unless I detect a truly serious defect. Like a violent streak or a failure to call me "Sir".) I would certainly not countenance any significantly older male trying something with her.
