It is not generally accepted in the community of moralists and ethicists that love for family members is ethical at all. In fact, the key (as Jesus pointed out) was that one must abandon his parents and siblings (as Jesus did) and go with the broader community of "neighbors" even if they are Samaritans. This conflicts with the principle of familism which dominates most pragmatic prudentialists. Most of us are willing to sacrifice our lives (and sometimes do) to save our children and wives (rarely post-menopausal mothers), and this is traceable to ideas much like Dawkins'. Clearly we are not egoists or hedonists, since we do not put ourselves first (although as breadwinners we sometimes act like we do), but we do not treat all people alike (as utilitarians ought to) but favor our own gene carriers or transmitters.
As a father, you will run into the awful problem of giving up your daughter to some other man in order that she can transmit your genes into future population. From what I have read of you, I would guess you will seek a Superman to mate with your child.
