Is it true that athm's subscribers are only up to 500,000 as of July 1st?
No way. From last quarters earnings report: At March 31, 1999, @Home served more than 460,000 cable modem subscribers across North America, an increase of 39% from 331,000 subscribers reported at December 31, 1998
Even at only a linear growth rate ATHM would have roughly 700,000 customers by today.
ATHM keeps repeating they are on track to 1,000,000 by the end of the year. Its pretty much the same pace (150,000/quarter) they already have been doing. Actually I'm pretty disappointed how linear the process is. We need exponential growth!
Are people being delayed in service areas by the installation service calls? If so, why don't the MSO's hire more installers to intall those 20 million potential subscribers faster. Last I heard (it was a while ago) the primary limitation was the number of installers that could be found, hired and trained. I'd love to know the current status. Anyone know? I also suspect that ATHM *wants* the growth to be contained. This is still a very new technology that they are learning about real-time in the field.
