AAD - woithout putting a lot of thought into the following statements I have 3 hypothesis:

1) It as you think - where there is smoke there is fire.

2) Maybe the company is doing a private placement or psoitioning the stock for a run. But if so why so many "small" transactions. Why not just one chunk for each house and that is it? This question really bugs me. If all the allotments were arranged beforehand it seems a willy nilly way to pick up your shares - by competing in the open market.

3) Maybe the company is doing some promo work. But your analysis seems to have discounted this alternative.
