OT...4 years ago my best friend's little boy was diagnosed with Leukemia, unfortunately he passed away when he was a little over 2. To help while he was in the hospital we had a golf outing and auction. My husband and I wanted to also stress the need for blood, plateletes and bone marrow for these children, so we started a blood drive and added a bone marrow registration. Our organization funded the payment for testing of bone marrow. We are in the middle of organizing the golf outing again for July and at our last meeting we were saying the money is a help but the true success would be if we could save one life! Today we got a call that one of our members who was added to the registry for bone marrow at our blood/bone marrow drive is a possible match for a One year old baby! We have made our organization a full fledged non-profit organization and we give money to families for non-medical expenses such as parking, food while staying in the hospital with the child and anything else they need. This year we also provided funding for a family that was homeless. They have six children and the four year old was diagnosed with Leukemia and was going to be treated as an outpatient. We gave them money to set up a home and provided beds and other items for the house. We also fund research as well as fund the bone marrow drive and we also provide entertainment in the winter months. Keep this childyour prayers while we await news to see if our member is a match for this child and if you feel the need to share your good luck give blood, plateletes and register for the bone marrow I can help anyone who needs info on how to do this.
