Louis, who is buying stocks for one year of earnings? Shouldn't we all be trying to find stocks with the cheapest multiples of 1998, 1999 and year 2000 earnings? If you could have figured out two years ago that Intel was going to earn over $8.50 EPS this year, wouldn't you have figured it to be a good long-term investment, regardless of the P/E on 1995 earnings? Looking at 1997 earnings only today is being awfully short-term oriented, wouldn't you agree.....
For the record only, the manager is Jim Callinan and he took over the fund last year after running the Putnam OTC Emerging Growth Fund for two years - where he performed very well - albeit in a different type of market for tech stocks.
