I disagree. Sacrificing one's self to save the lives of any we truly love is the ultimate act of selfishness and an act of the highest morality. On the other hand, sacrificing one's self to save the life of a despicable, loathsome, worthless individual is the ultimate act of selflessness and one of the highest immoralities an individual can commit. Most of us are willing to sacrifice our lives (and sometimes do) to save our children and wives (rarely post-menopausal mothers), and this is traceable to ideas much like Dawkins'. Clearly we are not egoists or hedonists, since we do not put ourselves first...
