Sorros and Buffett it doesn't get any better than this!

Punch Taverns Group financed by investor group including George Sorros and Texas Pacific Group is in an all out bidding war with Whitbread PLC for control of 4500 UK pubs Allied Domecq has put on the block.

July 2 Whitbreads Final Offer 2.877 billion pounds (4.54 billion us)
Offer comprises 135 million shares of WTB LN (1001) and 1.5 billion pounds cash, up from their previous offer of 2.3 billion pounds in stock.

Punch published a response the announcement stating that their
offer of 2.85 billion pounds was higher based on current share price
of WTB. Punch chairman Hugh Osmond refused to concede defeat.
" We'll do what it takes to win"
There have been accusations that market bandits have been manipulating WTB share price to dilute their offer.

Based on close 5/28/99 close 1111 the current Whitbread Plc offer would equate to:

1.5 billion + 135,000,000 X 1111=149,985,000 or 2.99985 billion pounds

Punch will have to do something their offer expires July 5, 1999.
