DJ Northstar's Lisanti: Most Stks Will Do Well In 1999

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Mary Lisanti, chief investment officer for equities of Northstar Investment Management, thinks 1999 will be the inverse of 1998.

"Last year, the top 50 stocks were doing well while the rest of the stocks had tough times. This year, now the rest of the market will do well while the top 50 will have a tough time," Lisanti told CNBC in an interview Friday.

This switch is part of a larger trend that the world is experiencing. Lisanti said the world has gone from 60% in recession to a current stabilization, and is heading toward a global expansion.

Lisanti said demand for semiconductor chips, oil services and capital equipment is increasing.

She recommended Atmel Corp. (ATML) with enormous operating margins and products being used in the new generation of cell phones.

She said she thinks "second-tier companies," like Lam Research Corp. (LAMR), Teradyne Inc. (TER), and Novell Inc. (NOVL), will do well.
