hey Downsouth,

<< Pigboy, you changed subjects in mid sentence. You went from "fibre channel" to SAN. >>

if we are talking SANs, I guarantee you it's gonna be pretty hard not to talk Fibre Channel. ;-)) I've been to a few conferences where the people there would argue that SAN is Fibre Channel, meaning that most SANs in the future will use the enabling technology Fibre Channel. ;-) There are a number of Fibre Channel equipment providers that I have followed for years--

switch makers - Brocade, Ancor, SanCastle.

hub makers - Vixel(who also make a switch), Gadzoox (make lower end switches, not fabrics, i don't believe), G2, Emulex

All these products are for the SAN and all use Fibre Channel.
Big people like SUNW, HDS, Compaq, DELL, IBM, EMC, etc...have all announced that they are using these companies for their SAN offerings.

I believe most SANs will use Fibre Channel in the future and that some companies may combine both SAN and NAS.

maybe i am way off,
cheers,
pigboy
