I don't think of "atheist" as a pejorative word, Terrence. To me, it is just a descriptive term, one that seemed to describe you. You do say things that I have only heard atheists say, such as your reference to "the basic immorality of religions."

My late husband claimed to be an atheist, and we used to have mock fights over precisely this assertion (which he also made), and over his insistence that all religion (even of the non-institutional variety) was basically, hopelessly, irremediably intolerant. (The irony of it all was, of course, that he had read more theology than 99% of professed believers.)

But if I have mislabelled you, I apologize.

What are you, anyway? :-)
