Yes, at Preferred you have to talk to a live broker to enter a spread.

Fortunately, it is easy to get to a live broker.

I don't find anything on any of their web sites about a "retail rate". And I didn't get anything in the mail (other than my monthly statement). It would appear that the SAME rates apply online or by phone. (But perhaps this is something that recently changed.)

I was considering converting a couple of profitable long call positions to spreads, but I chickend-out and took my profit at the close today. (July 57 1/2 CSCO calls, and July 60 SUNW calls). I was going to do it by phone, and ask them if it would be OK the next time to do it online. It's unclear that this would have been understood by their online system to be a spread (my account IS approved for spreads).
