Hi Bob
I have the same situation, see my post #218.
Another post of yours peaked my interest, the one about the cats and coons drinking out of the same tub of water at the same time. My cats are citified, and when I acquired them, they were already declawed. I have been hesitant to take them to the lake with me and left to roam around as I figured if they came upon a coon, there would be a fight and my cats would lose and worse, be injured. On the other hand, I like the idea of them having space to explore for a change. Have you never witnessed posturing between the two?
I had a coon climb up on my boat a couple of weekends ago, get up under the tarp, poke around, then left to get another family member I suppose and they both returned and climbed up under the tarp again and stayed there going from one end to the other for about 20 min and finally left. I sure hope I don't get up there this weekend and find that a whole family has moved in, or worse some new babies are nesting there :)
I have twin fawns that are always in the yard resting and a fine roadrunner that darts through on a regular basis. I can't wait to live up there permanently instead of just the weekends! But like you, there is no end to the costs involved in feeding all these creatures, and also no end to the pleasure of having them around.
