Dow Jones News Service -- March 21, 1997

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Punk Ziegel Knoell upgraded 3Com Corp. (COMS)

In a research note, the firm said the upgrade is primarily due to 3Com's better-than-expected third-quarter earnings of 47 cents a share, compared with 42 cents a year ago and a First Call estimate of 46 cents.

The firm lowered its 1997 earnings estimate to $2.06 a share from $2.07 and maintained its 1998 estimate of $2.68.

Punk Ziegel maintained its share-price target of 80. 3Com shares were recently trading at 34 3/4.
