You do not have to do ALL your learning from experience. That is too facile- and can kill you. Adolescents can learn a lot by talking to adults IF they think the adults are talking to them in a truthful manner. For example, I didn't need to be killed in a drunken driving accident to realize that driving with a drunk boyfriend might be dangerous. And I didn't have to be abused to watch out for abusive men. I was told by an older woman friend about her abusive experience, and I met only one man who seemed anything like the one she had told me about- and I did not go out with him.

While hormones are very very strong, I think good sense can keep some young people from jumping into sexual relationships too early IF they have been properly prepared.
