I've been married- happily for the most part-for twenty one years. If you add my five year first marriage, which I really don't count, I guess I could say I've been married 26 years. And MEthinks some marrieds doth protest too much.

My humble guess would be that he who is happy single will be happy married. People who are happy by nature are not usually changed by their circumstances. Why do you consider Mel to be baying at the moon, but you're not? I find that rather condescending!
Generalizations of any sort are irksome. But studies do show that men are happier and live longer in a married state, and are the most unhappy when single. Women do much better than men alone.

So could we alter your statement to "Marriage is much better- for Christopher, but not necessarily for everyone"?
